I was very happy to get a call from Zeynep, asking me if I could take pictures of their celebration! I shot their engagement party in Ortakent a few years ago. And finally they are married! Zeynep made a absolutely beautiful bride, that was a real pleasure to take pictures of.
We decided to spend 1.5h in Bodrum Castle for the couple photo-shoot. Felt like we stepped back in history. Those high stone walls, stone floor and stairs, make us feel like we were in 16th century 🙂 And Zeynep was the princess of the Bodrum castle!
It has been an amazing party after! That was a Henna party actually and it was filled with lots of different activities, like belly dancers and henna ceremony following. A henna party was an occasion on which the bride, young girls, and the womenfolk of her future husband dressed up in the sumptuous, heavily-embroidered dresses called bindalli. The bride’s face would be concealed by a sequined red veil. The bride and her friends, carrying lit candles, would approach the guests while coins would be scattered over the bride’s head as symbols of fertility.
I am still amazed by the traditions of Turkish weddings. It’s a color and music show! It’s a treat to any photographer to be able to capture this!
